Belgian Gardens State School encourages students in their final year of primary education to undertake leadership roles in the school. Whilst all Year 6 students will be considered school leaders, a small number of students will be elected and receive badges for formal leadership positions.
Student leadership positions at our school will include:
SCHOOL CAPTAIN (4=2 Captains and 2 Vice-Captains)
HOUSE CAPTAIN (8 = 2 Captains, per House)
ARTS CAPTAIN (2 Captains)
eLEARNING CAPTAIN (2 Captains)
ENVIRONMENTAL CAPTAIN (4 Captains)
CULTURAL CAPTAIN (1 Captain)
Students applying for a leadership role must have at least 2 Belgian Gardens SS staff members as referees, one of those being their class teacher. Such students will also have demonstrated very good effort and behaviour across subject areas and have been actively involved in the general life of the school. Belgian Gardens will select the most successful applicants for each position after students participate in each component of the leadership process (written application, camp, speech, voting and interview). This does not have to be one boy and one girl for roles other than the School Captain and Vice-Captain leadership roles.
EXPECTATIONS OF OUR STUDENT LEADERS
It is our expectation that our student leaders are positive role models at all times for all students. In essence, Student Leaders will lead by example. The wearing of the correct uniform, the use of appropriate speech and the demonstration of mature and responsible behaviour by our student leaders is essential for the positive tone of our school.
It is well known that students from Belgian Gardens are proud of being part of the school and possess excellent manners and positive behaviours.
Student candidates for all student leadership positions should note that some out of school hours activities may occur during the course of the year. As Student Leaders are ambassadors of our school, there is an expectation that they will make themselves available at these times.
