At Belgian Gardens State School, additional support is provided to students with a verified disability in the categories of:
- Intellectual Disability
- Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Hearing Impairment
- Speech Language Impairment
- Physical Impairment
- Vision Impairment
The range of support varies according to individual needs and is documented in a student's Personalised Learning Plan. Our team includes the Head of Inclusion, Special Education Program Teachers and Teacher Aides.
We are continually working towards developing inclusive settings for our students to ensure that:
- all people within the school community with a disability are provided with the same opportunities as others and barriers to learning and accessing the school environment are removed
- resources are used in a manner that enables the school to meet the identified learning and support needs of students with disability in consultation with the student and their parents
- all school staff are aware of their obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005.
- the school participates in the annual Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)
- partnerships are developed with community organisations (kindergartens, ECDPs, high schools) to ensure transitions to and from the primary school environment are planned to support the needs of students
